Silver Platter Entrees 2010 Summer Camp

Silver Platter 2011 Summer Camp Schedule
Around the World

Each week we will be cooking, learning and studying foods from different countries. Along with an international cuisine, we will be discussing healthy eating habits. Every day we will start class with a healthy food item for the children to try. We ask that children try at least one bite of every item. We have found that once children try different foods, they tend to like them and have heard positive feedback from parents on children’s eating habits after attending our cooking camp.

We want this summer camp to be fun, exciting and educational (but don’t tell your children!) We will display a map of the world, and will point out the country we are studying. We will teach the children how to say basic expressions and food items in the language of the country we are studying. So, look forward to your child teaching you how to say “hello” in different language each week!

June 13 - 17 - Italian Cucina - We will be learning to cook food from the different regions in Italy. We will also teach the children how to make fresh pasta.

June 27 - July 1 - German Foods - Chef Folker grew up in Germany and learned from his mother and grandmother. Students will learn authentic German cuisine.

July 11 - 15 - Oriental Cooking - We will be studying Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai foods. This week will give the children an opportunity to try really different food, spices and combinations because we will be studying so many different regions/countries.

July 18 - 22 - Pastry Chef - We cannot have summer camp without studying cake baking and decorating. This class will also teach bread and pastry baking. Once again we will teach the children the basics of cake decorating. Our goal is to have the children bake, ice and decorate their own birthday cake (just think moms – you won’t have to worry about their birthday cakes anymore!)

July 25 - 29 - Mexican Cuisine - This class will explore the many different flavors and foods found in Mexico and Central America. We will teach the children more than just tacos and burritos.

August 8 - 12 – French Cooking - Your last week of freedom! We will spend it learning the foods of France. We will learn to cook not only French foods, but French pastries and breads. French cuisine has so much depth, we will be able to teach the children many different things. But, don’t worry, we won’t be preparing escargot!

This year we will host a party ever Friday for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. We will prepare a meal for everyone from the week’s class. This not only gives students an opportunity to learn to cook, but also to prepare and host a party! The cost for attendees (other than the students) is $5.00 per person.

This camp is a hands-on cooking experience for children.  Every day they will cut, chop, cook, create and eat.  Strict conduct is expected.  Food allergies need to be noted.

Each week not only will the children learn to cook, read recipes, measure, etc. we will also show them how to set a table, eat properly, discuss and expect proper table manners, proper etiquette and show the children easy napkin folding.  Our goal is to develop your child into someone who can go out in public, eat and conduct themselves properly.  We treat the children with respect and expect the same conduct from them.

Every child is expected to try all foods.  We want to raise children’s knowledge and understanding of different foods.
